The House Rocks

Yesterday, they started putting some of the rock on the house.  It's in the back and I almost missed it.

All of the posts will be wrapped in rock like this.  There will also be rock around the bottom of the house in front.  Then wood wrapped to the top of the post and stain it.

The tongue and groove cedar has been installed in the entryway.  The big beams will be stained, too.

I love the front door.  Here it is from the inside:

Now this silly program says this photo is in the center.  Go figure...  No sense, this makes no sense at all.

Here's one of my favorite things in the kitchen.  This cupboard is for flat dishes like a 9"x13" dish.  It's also for serving pieces and up to 6" high bowls.  I think I'll like it.  Then you don't have to stack and have dishes fall over in the cupboard.  We'll see if I like it later!

The master shower is almost done.  I like the looks of the bottom of the shower.

Here's the rest of the shower.

The corner bench is supposed to be soapstone, too.  I think the backsplash in the master bath is cool.

I really am happy with the pieces of glass in the shower and backsplash that are the same as the glass in the floor.

This is the office door.  I love it.  I think I should have my name sandblasted in it!  lol  Think Scooter would like that?

Now it really seems to be coming together.  Some of the lights work, but they are the canned lights.  I'm not sure when the electrician comes.

I'm excited to see the lights in place.

The Bee Hive

Aside from the hundreds, no thousands of yellow jackets at our new place, the house was a buzzing with activity!  The carpenters were there doing the trim, doors & fireplace mantel.  I don't even know how many guys were there.

Lots of doors and lots of trim were installed today.  I have only taken one photo of an installed pocket door & I think we have six total.  The windows in the great room/dining area are completely wrapped with trim.  The rest will  only have a wood sill.  The following are the photos I took today:

  Jack & Jill closet

  office closet

   pantry

Next is the front door:

I don't think it will go in for a day or so.  They need to get the hardware so the door can be locked.

This is the pocket door that will go on the office:

I think the mantel is beautiful!  They are doing such a wonderful job:

Today the siding guys worked on the East side of the house.  It's sure going quickly.

The front of the house looks amazing.  One more gable and they will be done with it.  Then the back of the house.

Our showers look so great.  I love the tile choices we made.  OK, I had the biggest say.

I love that the tile goes to the ceiling. I'm sure the tile guy would have chosen a different tile!  I think I'll really like the glass tiles that match the floor that are randomly placed.  There are two niches and there will be a small bench.

The backsplash on the Jack & Jill vanities is the same accent tile used in the shower.  I thought they were using the subway tile, but I am so happy with what they did.

And last, but not least is the kitchen.  The countertop did get oiled, but the carpenters have sawdust all over it, so it's kind of hard to see.  Check it out!

I could not be happier with the countertops.  Amazing is all I can say.  I love the veining and how "soft" they are - soft to the touch.  Soapstone is softer than granite, but it has been used for 100's of years in Europe.  I look forward to using them.

Only 21 more days until the Certificate of Occupation!  Woohoo!

Happy, Happy, Happy

Today was the day for which I have been waiting!  We have countertops - soapstone countertops!  YAY!

The first photos are of the master bathroom countertop.  It has been oiled and looks awesome.

I love the quartz veins in the soapstone.  I think they turned out awesome!

The next photo is one of the vanities in the Jack and Jill bathroom.  I took a photo of both, but one turned out way too blurry.  I'll take another tomorrow.

I love the streaks in this one.  Especially how the sink cuts through the quartz .

Now, the kitchen counters.  This is soapstone that has not been oiled yet.  It comes gray (or green) like this and once oiled the details stand out.  I will have photos tomorrow of the oiled counters!

I can hardly believe how beautiful they are.  I love them sooooo much!  The look is incredible, but the feel of the soapstone is something else.  They are so soft feeling and they are not cold like granite or marble.

Next, is the tile in the master bathroom shower.  The white tile is glass and the ones with the paper on them are the glass tile from the floor.  It's going to look so awesome!  I love it, too!

The black rectangles are going to be niches for shampoo, etc.  I didn't get back up tonight or you'd be able to tell better.  I'm anxious to see tomorrow, too.

And the last couple of photos are the outside shakes.  I think it brings down the blue a bit, too.  I love seeing the details come together to make it all cohesive.

I am unable to figure out this new version of this blog.  My photos or my typing jumps all over the page!  ARGH!

Anyway, I am so pleased with what I saw today.  Oh, oh, oh!  I forgot.  First thing this morning, our appliances were delivered, too!  I think they get installed tomorrow.

Thanks for following along.  I don't know if I'd ever build again, but I'm going to be so glad when everything is done!  I love all your comments.  I hope I'm not too boring!

A Little Bit at a Time

It seems there is not much progress on the house, but really, it is going well.  This is the part you don't want them to rush.  You want these last things to be done well.  You don't want them to hurry through them and have to do them over.  I didn't realize how impatient I am!

I guess because I moved from "home" in October last year, it seems like I have been squatting for a very long time.  I try to remember how lucky I am to have this nice, new house.  I also cringe a little when I see how nice it is.  Then I remember Scooter and I worked a very long time to have this house.  It is our last one and I feel we've earned it.  It's still hard not to feel a little pretentious.

Today's photos are from a few days.  There are some subtle changes and a couple big ones.

This shows the trim board that was placed where the rock will go on the front of the house.

Here are the shakes that will go on the peaks:

Here is what they look like on the house:

They are storing the doors and trim in the garage:

Today, the tile in the Jack and Jill bath went up.

It still needs grout but you can see it anyway!

And lastly, here's another shot of the master bathroom floor tile.  They are getting ready to tile the shower here, too.  Probably will be up tomorrow.

That's it for now.  Rumor has it the countertops go in tomorrow.  I can hardly wait.  The appliances are coming tomorrow, too.  My goodness.  I'm so excited!
